Total Solar Eclipse 22nd July 2009
This powerful solar eclipse occurs in the 30th degree of cancer and not only is it presaged by last months’ new moon at 2 degrees of cancer but it is also accompanied by 2 lunar eclipses 2 weeks each side of it. This year we experience the phenomenon of 6 eclipses in total compared to the usual 4. Solar eclipses tend to emphasise external affairs and lunar eclipses tend to focus on our inner landscapes (emotional worlds).
This is considered to be a very long eclipse of almost 7 minutes in duration and we will not experience another one of such magnitude for nearly another 130 years. So what does this all mean for us? Firstly we can look at the overall collective influence of having 2 new moons at each end of Cancer.
The new moon, June 22nd (EST) opens us to the birth and fruition of what has already been initiated, countries and ourselves personally can look to our natal charts to see where the emphasis is likely to occur, taking into account other astrological influences at this time. This new moon has an opposition to Pluto which indicates it is time for rebirth, to regenerate what has decayed and gone back to the earth. Pluto is sojourning through Capricorn which is the energy of the status quo and the establishment, rules etc and Pluto will annihilate that which is outgrown, stagnant, corrupt and in decay, but will also enrich and strengthen that which is ethical and good. Uranus (the awakener, unstable, unpredictable energy) comes into the picture creating a T square which is challenges of great difficulty, does not auger an ease with the toppling of old worn out structures...we are probably going to have a deepening of global struggle as Uranus ensures that the Piscean age comes to its final ends to allow the new age of Aquarius to be born. The sabian symbol for this degree “A man suspended over a vast place” alludes to a levelling, down to the lowest common denominator...The theme behind the age of Pisces was to teach us compassion though suffering..The Age of Aquarius over the next 2,000 years or so will teach us about brotherhood, equality and self responsibility.
The solar eclipse July 22nd heralds a new moon of massive proportions, fuelled by the previous new moon, the fermentation and realization will unfold over the next few months...Eclipses can be likened to a new moon ten times over in emphasis and crisis... The eclipse path travels from the west coast of India across Nepal, Bangladesh, China, Tibet, the southern islands of Japan and across the Pacific Ocean impacting on the lives of millions of people. (20 million alone in Shangri-La). The ancients viewed eclipses as challenging heads of state (toppling) and as omens and harbingers of great cultural shifts. This eclipse at 30 degrees of cancer is an unstable degree; it is karmic in nature and alludes to the necessary finalisation and completion of the purging to be done to create a new world order. It is an eclipse of the past, where the memories of the past may come to haunt us. The sabian symbol of this eclipse is “A daughter of the American Revolution” , perhaps this suggests we are being visited by the sins of our fathers, a time to change and regenerate our belief systems, government control and our reticence to claiming back our responsibility instead of blaming government, leaders, bosses, or anyone we feel controls our lives through what we believe is their neglect or abuse..
